Latchmere 1st Draft

Dolby

I like the images for the digipak and there is a clear style. The album is called 'Colour me in' so is the use of black and white ironic?! I would be more creative with the use of ICT in manipulating images-check the mark scheme and check grammar- e.g. apostrophe in band name or not?

Location

We have chosen to base our video in London as we thought that it would relate to the song, because of the line 'stay in your lane', we thought that using a busy city as the main location would be a good concept for people who are rushing around and aren't 'staying in their lanes'. We decided to use the tube and London station as a few of our main locations but we also wanted to use the busy roads as well, so we went to a few cross roads near the station so we could film some of the busy traffic during the day and then again at night.

We have chosen the schools photography studio as a location for the performance as its has a plain black back drop which we thought would suit the black and white theme of the video.

we had to change the concept of our video as we couldn't use the original location due to plans being changed and people who couldn't make it to the date we had arranged to do the filming on.

Crew List

We have chosen these people to be in our music video as we think they suit the style of music:

Jordan Logan

Jordan Harris

Will Roberts

Rob Hussain

Equipment List

For our video we need to use the following equipment so that we can get the shots needed for our video:

Black back drop for the photos of the band and the scenes with the performance. We decided to use a black backdrop as our video is going to be in black and white. We used this back drop for the performance part of the video with the guitar and drums.

Tripod to get steady shots for the video. We used a tripod for the shots of the band for the digipack and website and we also used it for some of the shots in London. This was really beneficially for us as most of the shots we needed to take were long shots as we were speeding them up anyway.

Camera to film the footage on. The camera we used to film the footage on was a canon 700D, this is Hollies camera and we decided to use this camera as we thought that using a camera one of us owned would be easily to then go out of school and get footage, we also found that in the prelim task that we both struggled to use the school cameras as well as struggling to hold them as they were really big.

Phone to take some pictures on and to use for timings of different shots. I used my Iphone to take some pictures throughout the day in London filming so I could use them on my digipak and website. However I also used it to do timings of shots so that we knew would get enough footage.

Apple computer to edit the clips for the video. We decided to use a software on the apple Mac computer called final cut pro, this software allowed use to edit our footage and to create the music video. This software however is very technical, which means that although it will help us get the best quality out of our video it also means that it takes a longer time editing.

Age Rating

To know whether our music video would have an age rating we would have to send it to the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) they watch the video through and then decide what rating the video Is depending on whether it contains: drug misuse, dangerous behavior presented as safe, bad language, sexual behavior and nudity, threatening behavior and violence.
In our music video we don't have any of the above which means that there might not being a rating on our video. But this is up to the BBFC.

Progress Update

I phoned Wellington College and it turns out we aren't allowed to film at the pool! This has meant that Hollie and I have to change out idea of our music video. We have a few other ideas which we will be making a storyboard for in the next couple of lessons, this has meant that we have been held back from filming but we will have to work quicker and put more time into filming and creating the final product.

Progress Update

From our filming schedule we were meant to film on Friday the 4th but when it got to the day some of the people who were going to be in our video couldn't make it. We had the pool booked out but had to cancel the booking. We have now tried to rearrange the day and are trying to book out the pool again for hopefully Friday 11th.

Making Cardboard Instruments

For our music video we have decide to make cardboard instruments. We were inspired by SWMRS and their music video 'figuring it out'. I think that by having the Instruments made out of cardboard give the video a more unique concept as not many music videos use them.
As we couldn't find enough people who could actually play the instruments we decided to make them out of cardboard so that in the video if they look like they cant properly play the instruments it won't look as unprofessional as they can pretend to play them.
We have tried to recreate the same style guitars as the band uses so that it is as similar to the real band as possible.

We used cardboard boxes to create the drum set and the guitars, and this is what the final product looks like:

The Pitch

Pitch and feedback

Things to do:
  • From the feedback we will go back through the lyrics of the song to try get more of a clear structure from our music video.
  • We will also think about the problems which may occur such as the lip-syncing, so we will have to think about where we place the performance in the video and whether we will have the band lip syncing or if we will put words up on the screen.
  • We need to also take pictures of the location so we can have a clearer idea of the settings fro our video.
  • We also are going to create an animated storyboard so that we can get a better idea of the flow of the video, and the transitions between each frame.

Copyright email - Fiction Records

we have sent a letter off to Fiction Records to see if we can have permission to use the song 'Latchmere' by The Maccabees for our music video. We did struggle to find a email address on the website so we went onto Fiction Records Facebook page and sent a message over facebook as we couldn't find any other contact details. This is a copy of the email Hollie and I sent to the record company: Dear Sir/Madam, We understand you are the copyright holder of The Maccabee’s music. We are A-level students who are hoping to get your permission to use the song ‘Latchmere’ to create a music video for our media course, as well as producing an album and magazine advert for the artist in question. If we received your permission, this track would only be used in an educational context and be viewed by our media class, our teacher and the OCR exam board moderator, it would not be released to a large audience. The artist and your company would of course be fully recognised throughout pre-production and the final video itself. A copyright notice with wording supplied by you can be included in the records of the project. If this is required, please send full details. We look forward to hearing from you, Regards, Rhianna Newport & Hollie Dyes Shepherd Edgbarrow school, Grant Road, Crowthorne, RG45 7HZ We have put the school address on the bottom of the email so that the record company can look up the school if they wanted to.
